On Friday April 4th, the Feathers And Flight event began at Warner Bros Studio Tour in Leavesden and thanks to Megan for the tickets, we were in attendance!
The event runs in the tour from now up until April 27th (so there’s plenty of time for you to go see it!) and gives you an insight into how the animals were trained to act in the Harry Potter films (and how they will be for Fantastic Beasts).
First up, we had a Q&A session with Julie Tottman and Guillaume Grange, the head animal trainers on set. You can read the full Q&A by clicking here
Q – Are any of the animals going to be working on the new movies? The Fantastic Beasts ones?
Julie – Not these particular – well, actually, I can’t say for sure but most of the original Harry Potter ones are retired apart from the birds, so possibly some birds, but havn’t had that call yet, waiting for that!
I also spoke to Val Jones, the featherologist, about whether they would be using the Hippogriffs they had already built, or would they need to make new ones for Fantastic Beasts. She said (if there are any Hippogriffs in the new movies) that new ones would have to be made.
“Not looking forward to that call! They were very hard to do!”
Apart from that, you get to meet some of the owls that were trained for the movies and some of the equipment used to train them.
It is a brilliant insight into just how complex it is to teach some of the animals things you barely even think about when watching a movie & makes you wonder how they’ll do Fantastic Beasts!
