In reply to a fan question on Twitter, J.K Rowling has let us know that the form Newt’s patronus takes is a large spoiler for future films:

Does this mean Newt has to go up against some Dementors? Or perhaps he uses it as a shield against an Obscurus? Or, perhaps we finally get to see the Lethifold that was cut from the first movie:
[…] the Patronus is the only spell known to repel the Lethifold.
