Wand Installation to Illuminate Leicester Square

In celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone film and its premiere in Leicester Square back in 2001, the Wizarding World Wand Installation will return to illuminate Leicester Square. The installation was first seen for the promotion of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in October 2018 where it premiered across from St Paul’s Cathedral which you can see in our gallery here.

Standing fifteen feet tall and forming an 18 metre walkway, the wands are exact replicas of those belonging to nine of the most beloved characters in the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films and join Harry Potter and eight other bronze statues in the award-winning Scenes in the Square installation.

The magical installation will only be in the Square for two weeks, running from October 13th to the 25th, and will be illuminated from 6pm until 8.35pm every evening. To brighten up your experience even more, regular light shows will be performed to music from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts on scheduled days.

The wand display, in partnership with Discover Leicester Square, will form part of Inside Out Festival – a brand new, free festival produced by Westminster City Council and partners, that brings art, entertainment, and culture outdoors to the streets of Westminster, and will run until the end of October.

The installation, which includes the wands of Newt, Tina, Queenie, Dumbledore and Grindelwald, will also be touring the UK before the release of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore next April 8th.
Voted on by the public after the wands premiere in 2018, the installation will be visiting Hull, Stoke, Reading and Birmingham, with each displaying the wands for a week from March 2022 onwards.
