The first Secrets of Dumbledore full trailer has just dropped and it is two minutes and forty-six seconds of pure excitement:
Establishing the next chapter in the story of the Wizarding World, the trailer gives us glances at brand new magical locations, such as Bhutan, China, and Berlin, Germany. Returning characters include old favourites Newt, Jacob, Queenie and Credence/Aurelius while Professor extraordinaire Albus Dumbledore takes an important role in his namesake film, as we delve into his backstory, including his relationship with Gellert Grindelwald, now played by Mads Mikkelsen. More returning characters include Auror Theseus, Newt’s older brother, Yusuf Kama, Vinda Rosier, Eulalie Hicks of Ilvermorny (seen briefly in Crimes of Grindelwald) and Newt’s assistant Bunty; all in larger capacities this time round.
While we got our first glimpses in Friday’s teaser trailer, this full version extends a lot of those scenes and gives us much more context. We’ll have a full breakdown of all the scenes and things you may have missed up soon, but you can read our teaser trailer breakdown in the mean time.
The Official Synopsis reads:
Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?
Not only that, but WB have also given us our first stills from the film and they are glorious:
What do they tell us? Well, first we have Albus, Newt and Theseus in the back room of the Hogs Head pub where Albus seems to be showing the blood pact to the brothers. Explaining its backstory, perhaps? And is that a bandage on Newt’s hand?
Next we have our new quartet, Lally, Theseus, Jacob and Newt, along with Albus and McGonagall in the Great Hall after breakfast at Hogwarts looking up at a spell Albus has just cast. If you look a little closer you can see a phoenix emblem on Theseus’ tie – is this an Order of the Phoenix meeting? We can’t wait to find out more!
