Playing Anton Vogel

“My dude is Anton Vogel. I’m very proud about that, to be in this Wizarding World. I mean, it’s a big thing, and I’m just a small piece in a big puzzle, and the world is big, it’s huge, and Anton Vogel is the leader of the Confederation of International Wizards. So, he’s the leader, he’s the guy – he’s the President of the whole thing, he’s the dude, and Grindelwald wants to become the leader; so he wants to take my position, therefore he has to be elected.”

– On David Yates

“David Yates is a very gentle man; he’s a gentleman. He knows exactly what he wants, he has built it up in his head, everything he wants. He’s very polite. I was treated very well by him and he takes you very seriously, even if you ask stupid questions. I go, ‘Hello, it’s me, how am I in the movie?’, and he always comes and says, ‘You’re fantastic, you did a wonderful job’, and he gives you the feeling that you’re going to believe what he’s saying. I was treated so good, not only by David, but the whole crew, but he’s a very very gentle man who knows exactly what he is doing and I love working with him.”

– On Mads Mikkelsen

“I met Mads Mikkelsen, and Mads Mikkelsen in Germany, they always call me the German Mads Mikkelsen because they see similarities between me and Mads, or Mads and me; also, the fans on the internet do. So it’s pretty fun to see him and to stand right beside him and to find out there are similarities and not only the exterior, also in the behaviour. So, we have lots of fun together.”

– On Mads Mikkelsen’s Acting

“He is such an actor. In a really good way. He loves to act, and he loves to play around and he’s talking all the time with me, and we’re having a lot of fun and if the camera goes on he’s directly like that. He just switches, and he can do that so good, He can get into a role in milliseconds – it’s just ‘ping’, and Mads is there. And I like this kind of acting; I like it a lot. He’s not preparing a lot of stuff, he’s just doing it. He’s just ‘bang’, and there is Mads.”
